Our client, a global life-sciences company, needed to dramatically accelerate their process for developing customer solutions. Their goal was to move from their current 18-month cycle for getting new wraparound service/solutions in front of customers, to developing a functioning prototype for a 90-day service/solution.

SOLUTION

Our solution focused on two dimensions:

  • Expanding perspective early:
    • Partner with vendors as long term thought partners to co-develop solutions
    • Bring vendors in under NDAs beginning at the visioning phase to widen the lens for viewing possible solutions
    • Select vendors with both technical expertise and experience in rapid prototyping
  • “Turbo boost” the process by embedding a one-day Collaborative Workshop at the heart of the product development process in order to:
    • Shrink the multi-month onboarding process to one day by shifting communications to an intentionally orchestrated and streamlined experience involving all stakeholders (internal and external)
    • Ensure the visioning process was informed by a clear problem statement and highly-researched customer personas
    • Prepare developers to create a functioning prototype for review within two weeks of the session
IMPACT
  • Vendor partners returned with functioning prototypes for review within two weeks of the workshop
  • Our client met their goal of testing a functioning prototype with real patients and providers within 45 days
  • The accelerated prototyping process has been scaled throughout the organization, transforming other product development processes, and reshaping the way the company works
